Oil Pulling: An ancient Practice

Oil Pulling: An ancient Practice

Oil pulling, an ancient Ayurvedic practice, involves swishing edible oil—commonly coconut oil—in the mouth to promote oral and overall health. Traditionally, this technique is believed to draw out toxins from the body, thereby enhancing systemic health. Yes, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, twice per day, is pulling toxins from your ENTIRE BODY!

Potential Benefits of Oil Pulling

1. Oral Health Improvement: Regular oil pulling may reduce harmful bacteria in the mouth, decrease plaque buildup, and combat bad breath.

2. Detoxification Support: Some proponents suggest that oil pulling aids in removing toxins from the body, potentially benefiting organs like the liver and improving gut health.

3. Alleviation of Various Conditions: May people have reported that oil pulling has helped them with chronic dandruff, fibromyalgia, low energy levels, acne, inflammatory bowel dis-eases, bad breath, dental issues such as cavities, and more!

How to Practice Oil Pulling

• Choose the Right Oil: Coconut oil is popular due to its pleasant taste and antimicrobial properties. Be sure to use Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil.

• Swishing Technique: Place a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 5-7 minutes, ensuring it moves between your teeth and across all areas of your gums.

• Timing: Perform oil pulling preferably twice daily—once in the morning before eating and once before bedtime. You can also practice oil pulling in between meals.

• Post-Swish Routine: After swishing, spit the oil into a trash can to avoid plumbing issues, rinse your mouth with water, and proceed with regular brushing and flossing.

Scientific Perspective

While many individuals report positive outcomes from oil pulling, scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited. The American Dental Association states that there is insufficient reliable scientific evidence to support the use of oil pulling for reducing cavities, whitening teeth, or improving oral and overall health. This just means the Western Medical Community has not caught on to the many benefits of oil pulling. May I also add that this technique is OLDER than Western Medicine? The proof of the oil pulling benefits has been here for thousands of years.

Considerations

• Complementary Practice: Oil pulling should not replace standard oral hygiene practices such as brushing with tooth powder (Holistica's Herbal Tooth Powder officially launches tomorrow!) and natural FLUORIDE FREE toothpaste.

In summary, oil pulling is a traditional practice with a long history of use for promoting oral health and detoxification.  As with any health practice, it’s essential to approach oil pulling as a complementary method and maintain regular dental hygiene routines.
